Woman 710 freeway

The southbound 710 Freeway was shut down Wednesday night after a woman was struck and killed while walking in lanes, according to the California Highway Patrol.



The first call came into the Highway Patrol at 8:36 p. m. that a woman was walking in traffic on the northbound 710 Freeway, according to CHP Officer Patrick Kimball.



A second caller stated the woman was in the HOV lane, Kimball said.



At 8:42 p. m. the woman was struck by a car on the southbound side of the freeway just north of the 405 Freeway, Kimball said.



Traffic was being diverted from the 710 to the 405 while the Highway Patrol investigated the scene.



No other information was released.



Woman Killed on 710 Freeway in Long Beach Pedestrian Accident



LONG BEACH, California (August 7, 2014) – An unidentified woman was killed Wednesday night as she ran across the northbound lanes of the Long Beach 710 Freeway, according to California Highway Patrol reports.



About 8:35 p. m. CHP officers responded to a call about a woman walking on the shoulder of the freeway near the Interstate 405 San Diego Freeway.



Then she ran into the northbound lanes and climbed over the center divider onto the southbound side where she was hit by a 2000 Toyota Corolla. The driver of the car, Alejandra Garcia, 35, of Long Beach, was unable to avoid hitting the woman. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.



“My condolences go out to the family of this woman as they learn of this accident,” said Attorney James Johnson.
